Mint, Anyone!

Have you heard the newest color craze?  Mint….and what a beautiful shade.  Mint is associated with something fresh, clean and strong, so what a great color choice for a wedding as all of these characteristics should be included in your wedding.

There are a few color combos that work great with mint.  Martha Stewart pairs this shade with lemon yellow for a fresh look.  Another shade that goes great with mint is coral.  If you want to bring the shades down a little darker, grey would go nice too.

Ways to include during the ceremony:
The bridal party can be decked out in the shade of mint.  The flowers for the bridal party and the bride can be accented with mint.  The bride, herself, has many options to add this color as an accent to her attire: jewelry, a sash, her shoes or hair piece.  The flower girl can follow this same style.  How about a mint colored church?  Would you go that far to find one?

A mint reception:
Couples are choosing wedding cakes and desserts covered in this theme.  Whether the cake has the shade for the icing, or you make custom cupcakes (chocolate with mint icing), both would be delicious.  A popular trend at receptions is having a signature drink for your guests to enjoy (which are always ready to be poured); having a Mint themed wedding, make your “Signature Drink” a Mojito.  Mint can even be incorporated into your favors, check out these different options including one with the slogan “Mint to be Together”.

Beyond the wedding:
The shade of mint is fashionable to add to your wardrobe.  When packing your honeymoon suitcase, remember to bring some key pieces in this shade.  It will bring some of your wedding away with you!

Check out  this link on my PINTEREST to see more of this great shade!!!!

What about me?  Well, my birthday is in two weeks and I would like a MINT bike!!  Check it out!!

Candy Bar

Ever go to a wedding and want a little of this and a little of that for dessert? One of the newest DIY craves is a candy bar during the reception. These are easy to create and can be color-coordinated to your theme. Fill some glass bowls of different sizes with different candies and you will have a great table (Glass bowls can be purchased for as low as one dollar at AC Moore). Placing a banner over your table or by your table adds a great look, these banners can even be color-coordinated. Check out etsy.com for these type of banners.

Look at this post card... It is an amazing thank you note. The front side has classy, fun, memorable shots from the day and the back side is a typical post card...half for your note and half for an address. As an added bonus, mailing post cards is cheaper than mailing a letter.

Beat the Heat - Wedding Festivities

Summer has hit!  And as of 7:09pm last tonight (June 20th), the season has officially been brought upon us.  With June also being one of the most popular wedding months, what are you doing to keep cool or keep your guests cool during any festivities that may be occurring.

Hosting a party?  You will definitely want to keep your guests cool, beat the heat with a center piece made of refreshments.  Check out this DIY arrangement made of bottled drinks and matching flowers, floating on top of ice.  This is a sure eye catcher and thirst quencher!  Another idea would be to serve ice cold refreshments to all your guests upon their entrance.  I attended a beautiful outdoor wedding and as we entered the gated yard, we were greeted by servers handing out ice cold lemonade and iced tea.  It was a perfect idea and set the tone for a magnificent wedding.

How to dress for outdoor events?  As many of us know, there are different types of outdoor parties…casual, casual-dressy or dressy.  I love these different scenario attires, perfect for any of your outdoor parties.

Summer wedding??  I love the yellow intergraded into the theme.  As a bride, her accessories (flowers, shoes, garter, hair pins) can be a bright yellow followed by her bridesmaids and décor.  Too much yellow?  I would suggest using an accent color for the bridesmaids.

Facing Summer - Melt proof makeup!

Hey everyone! It's Heather:) I'm going to give you a sneak peek of our Summer 2012 beauty article. You will definitely want to read the whole article when it comes out on June 15th! Most of us LOVE the summer time! How can you not?! All the sunshine, beach getaways, playing (yes playing!) outside, and just plain fun!! One of the biggest problems of the awesome summer is the summer heat causes our makeup to melt right off our faces. It's been a constant battle for me for years! So, when I approached our Beauty Contributor, Kim Alicea, about this problem she was on board with helping women everywhere find great solutions no matter what their budgets are. Below is a sneak peek! Enjoy and be sure to check out the full article on June 15th in our summer issue at www.itsaboutdetails.com!

Now let’s talk makeup! Although you may feel you don’t want to wear a lot of makeup through the summer months, it is necessary to wear a few extras if you want your makeup to survive the day.  Anyone wanting a flawless face that will last all day or night (Brides in particular), these tips are for you!

Foundation – Choosing a foundation based on your skin type is the key.  Long wearing foundations are very popular these days but don’t get caught up in the advertising. Everyone’s skin is different and it’s important to find what’s right for you. Dry skin needs hydration which typically comes with an oil based foundation, while oily skin needs a mattifying formula typically found in oil free formulas that incorporate powders.

Foundation:  1. CHANEL Perfection Lumiere $57
                       2. Make Up Forever HD Invisible Cover $40
                       3. L’Oreal Infallible Never Fail Makeup $14

Avoid cream blushes and shadows, they will separate and require maintenance.

Use an eye shadow base (primer).

15 Minutes of Fame

15 minutes of fame...do you think everyone is entitled to this?  Or how about second chances?  Have you read the stories about Christina Davidson and Frank Tucci?  Yes, they are the couple from South Jersey that were married on the Academy of Country Music Awards on April 1, 2012.  I believe their experience was more about second chances than fame, but fame is also what they encountered.

Both young widows, the two became the best of friends at a support group (head by Christina).  Soon they were doing almost everything together and bouncing life decisions off each other.  They had a lot in common, especially the fact that they both had small children.  After time, they fell in love and knew they were on the right path.

After posting an engagement story on face book, David's Bridal read it and fell in love.  Then the local newspaper decided to do a write up on them.  The couple could have never imagined where this was going.  As all of this was going on the David's Bridal rep forwarded it on and one thing lead to another and they were asked to be on stage along side Christina's favorite country female singer, Martina McBride...singing a song the two hoped to use in their vows, "Marry Me".

I had the chance to speak with them on the phone last week and they were the nicest people.  As we live in a small world, getting smaller by the minute, we had some Face Book friends in common so it was easy to get the conversations moving.  I loved hearing about how Christina started the support group for young widowers, how they met, fell in love and how Frank proposed (very uniquely); all leading up to the live wedding in Las Vegas.  But it doesn't stop there for these two, or should I say five as all their decisions are based as a family with their boys, this month they started a new support group for young kids who have lost their parent.  Incredible!

Check out more about Christina, Frank and their journey in the upcoming issue of the magazine on June 15.

Happy Brides - Spring 2012

Jackie Simmermon

With wedding season hitting its prime for 2012, there have been three brides in my office; a fourth will take place this weekend and the fifth will be in December.  The constant theme with these brides as seen through their pictures and when they tell their stories is sheer happiness.  I can see so much joy on the smiles of these girls.  Jackie, MeeMee and Rosie all wed within a couple weeks of each other between March 23rd and May 5th and each girl had a unique experience.

Jackie was married on March 23rd at Congress Hall in Cape May, NJ.  Jackie bought her gown at Wedding Bells in Northfield, a small boutique with all your wedding day needs.  The owners, Tina and Terry have been in business for over 20 years.  Jackie choose a lace form fitting gown with a little bit of flare towards the bottom and a mermaid train.  The gown looked amazing on her.  Jackie and her husband, Chris dated for 3 years before tying the knot.  When asked what was your favorite part of the day, Jackie's response was "That all of our favorite people were there to party with us."  Perfect!

MeeMee Maiorano

MeeMee was married on April 20th in Mexico at the Dreams Tulum Resort and Spa.  In choosing a destination wedding, she also choose a great wedding gown.  Purchased from Sabrina Ann located in Ardmore, PA; this shop specializes in once worn, never worn or sample gowns.  MeeMee could not have picked a better suited gown for her event.  MeeMee and Matt dated for 2 years before their wedding and her favorite part about the day was (like Jackie) having all their close family and friends there (traveling) with them.

Rosie Klein
Rosie was married on Cinque de Mayo at Paradisus La Perla in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.  She wore a Lazaro gown purchased at Bridal Garden in Marlton, NJ.  This gown was amazing.  It was strapless, form fitting lace to the thigh and then ruffled out BIG TIME for the bottom and train.  She also added a gorgeous silver beaded sash around the waist.  Rosie planned a perfect get-away wedding for herself and her guests.  In looking at the images, there was not a detail left undone. Rosie met Michael 3 years ago. Check out more about Rosie and her BIG day (including her Top 10 favorite moments) in the next issue of the magazine under "Real Weddings".

All of these girls couldn't be happier, floating on cloud nine with their recent nuptials.  So it made me ask myself (and fellow FaceBook friends) "What do you do to keep the love alive after being married for 5 years plus?"  The consistent answer I received was "Always make time for date night".  Some others that I liked were keep humor in the relationship, don't take your spouses bad days personal, make time for each other (even when just sitting at home), always be honest and most importantly always tell each other you LOVE THEM.  Being married for 6 1/2 years, my husband and I try to have fun; whether it is with our kids (ages 3 & 7) or alone....I love him just as much today as I have in the past 17 years we have been together!
